Elizabeth’s Story

Elizabeth survived meningococcal disease when she was three years old.

After she came down with fu-like symptoms, her mother noticed purple spots appearing on her body and rushed Elizabeth to the ER. A doctor immediately recognized the symptoms of meningococcal disease and started treatment, which saved Elizabeth’s life. As a result of long-term complications, Elizabeth’s left leg had to be amputated in ffth grade.

As a nurse, Elizabeth realizes how important it is to spread awareness about meningococcal disease. She often hears from healthcare professionals that they didn’t realize meningitis could cause so much damage. Elizabeth hopes that by working with the National Meningitis Association she can help protect others from this disease.
